In 1293 the Vihterpalu area belonged to the Cistercian convent at Lihula, and from 1402 to Padise Abbey. A private manor emerged after the land was granted as a fief; it was first recorded in 1623. In 1622 (or 1624 by other accounts) it was granted to the Riga burgomaster Thomas von Ramm, and the Ramms and their heirs held it until 1919. The late classical main house was completed around 1825.
The main house has been privately owned since the 1990s, and its restoration was completed in 2005. A hotel stands where the stable and carriage house once were.
