Klooga, once called Lodijärve, was first recorded in 1504, and stone buildings are thought to have stood there already in the Middle Ages; after the lake’s German name the house was also called Lodensee Castle. In 1665 Hans von Klugen acquired the manor, and the Klugens kept it until 1908 – the Estonian name Klooga comes from theirs. The main house was completed in 1794: its basement story was vaulted, the first floor held a suite of state rooms and the second floor the living quarters. In front of it lay a court of honor framed by two stone houses, a stable and carriage house and a granary.
The main house stands in ruins on the east shore of Klooga Lake; the buildings around the court of honor have been altered, and the formal park is gone.
