Ohtu was founded in the early 1600s and named after the Ohtu free farm. Under Swedish rule it was granted to Nils Jönsson Krämer. In the early 1700s the manor belonged to Rötgert Johann von Wrangell and in the 1720s to Otto Wilhelm von Harpe. In the 1760s Christoph Heinrich von Kursell acquired it and had the complex built up in style; in 1793 it passed to the Meyendorffs. The two-story Baroque house was completed in 1769: pilaster strips and a central triangular pediment enliven the facade, while the tall hipped roof and small-paned windows give it a Baroque air.
In the early 2000s the complex passed into private hands; the main house has been restored outside and partly inside, and it hosts culinary and cultural events.

Good to know
From 1920 to 1971 the house held a school.
A copper roof installed in the meantime fell prey to metal thieves.
In summer 2009 the manor and park staged the play Aiapidu (Garden Party), whose two halves ran at the same time indoors and in the garden.
