Sutlema is first recorded in 1425, when it belonged to the Maydells. From 1761 to 1919 it was held by the Stackelbergs; the last owner was Eduard von Stackelberg. The manor center had a lens-shaped layout unique in Estonia. At its heart stood a one-story Late Baroque house with a half-hipped roof, and two Baroque gate towers with domed caps marked the entrance.
The privately owned house is practically a ruin. One gate tower was restored in 1999; the other was demolished as early as the late 1800s. A 1960s apartment block breaks up the unique layout.
