Kohila was recorded in 1438, when it belonged to the Tödwen family, and from the 1500s to the 1700s it was held by the Wrangells. The von Breverns, owners from 1771 to 1906, built it out more grandly, and the Classicist house rose in the early 1800s. A small wood-pulp board mill started by the lord with ten workers grew into the Kohila paper mill, which bought the manor after the fire of 1905.
Since 2013 the house has been Kohila Manor School, and the old manor avenue is now a village street.
