Tohisoo manor was probably founded in the 1600s, when it belonged to the Burts. After the Great Northern War it changed hands several times, and in 1744 it passed by inheritance to Berend Johann von Wrangell; the Wrangells held it until 1919. The older timber house was burned in 1905. The present Historicist house was completed in the 1910s. It has a fieldstone foundation and intricately shaped gables on the three projecting sections of the facade, and the main entrance is a small polygonal projecting porch. At the back, the center rises to two stories and has a small veranda.
After expropriation a school moved into the house, and in 1938 a second story was added to its front half; the back keeps roughly its original look. The house is used by Kohila educational institutions. The large park and a few outbuildings survive, and the complex now lies within the borough of Kohila.

Good to know
The last owner, Benita von Wrangell, married the Swede Carl Mothander in the 1920s; he wrote a book about Baltic German noble life, published in Estonian as “Parunid, eestlased ja enamlased” (Barons, Estonians and Bolsheviks).
The cellars of the old house burned in 1905 survive on the river side of the present house.
