Kernu Kirna
Kernu began as part of Kohatu manor. Its manor center was built up in the late 1700s, when the estate belonged to the Tiesenhausens. In 1810–1813 Baron Ungern-Sternberg had the house remodeled in Classicist style, probably to designs by Carl Ludvig Engel. The front has a portico with four Ionic columns and a pediment, and the back a semicircular bay on four columns. Long wing galleries with two-story end pavilions once extended from the house.

Good to know Ernst von Kotzebue laid out a family cemetery on an island in the manor’s millpond. The last owner, Major General Nikolai von Wrangell, was a cousin of the White Army general Pyotr Wrangel. Its German name was Kirna.
