Kõo was a crown estate in Pilistvere parish. In 1774 the manor’s two-story Baroque stone house was completed along with many outbuildings. The manor had a long row of farm buildings with a gate tower, which has also housed the Kõo municipal government; the new gate tower was built wider than the original so that cars could pass through. In 1914, at the initiative of the Viljandi Estonian Farmers’ Society, Estonia’s first agricultural school opened at Kõo manor.
The main house survives; relatively few of the outbuildings remain.
