Uulu was recorded as a manor in 1601. In 1799 Emperor Paul I granted it to the Campenhausens, and from 1819 it belonged, together with Surju, to the Staël von Holsteins. In the 1850s–1860s Gotthard Reinhold Staël von Holstein built a large Neo-Renaissance palace, one of the grandest near Pärnu. In 1880 the heir to the throne, later Emperor Alexander III, visited the manor. On December 6, 1917, while Russian soldiers were quartered there, the house burned down.
