Tahkuranna was a crown estate on the eastern shore of Pärnu Bay. It probably served as a strongpoint guarding the harbor as early as the early 1500s, and in the Middle Ages as an emergency harbor on the bay. In 1560 it was recorded as an Order manor of the Pärnu commandery. It was burned in the Livonian War. In 1627 Gustav II Adolf granted it, together with eight other Pärnu County manors, to Count Franz Bernhard von Thurn-Valsassina. Today’s house probably stands on the foundations of a fortified medieval building, over a full cellar with a heavy beamed ceiling and windows like arrow slits.
The house is roofed and in good repair; the manor center has served as guest lodging.
