Käru was split off from neighboring Lelle manor in the mid-1700s. The old main house, later used as the steward’s house, is a long, archaic timber building with a half-hipped roof. The manor belonged to the von Staudens, later the von Ditmars and, from 1898, the von Rentelns. The long new Neo-Renaissance main house was built in 1878 to designs by the Riga architect Robert Pflug: mostly one story, two stories in the center, with a four-story tower at the left end. A Gothic Revival smithy with corner turrets, like a small castle, also survives.
The house was burned in 1905 and rebuilt in simplified form, without its end tower. A school worked in the building from the 1920s until 2001; today it is privately owned.
