Vihula Viol
In 1501 Vihula belonged to the Lodes, and in the 1600s and 1700s the Helffreichs built a Baroque core that still hides inside the main house. The von Schuberts bought the estate in 1810, enlarged it and gave it a Neo-Renaissance shell in the 1880s. Elegant outbuildings and gateposts with carved arms rose along the high mill pond, making Vihula one of Virumaa’s richest manor ensembles.

Good to know The von Schuberts kept the manor until the Baltic German resettlement of 1939. After the war the main house served as a care home. The family burial chapel stands in the Haljala churchyard.
