Loobu was founded in the 1730s beside the Tallinn–Narva road, where it crosses the Loobu River, on the river’s west bank; it was split off from the lands of Rakvere manor. The older part of the main house is a long, archaic one-story timber building of the 1700s. In the late 1800s a two-story exposed-brick Historicist block was added to its right end. The last owners before expropriation were the Dellingshausens of Aaspere manor.
