Vana-Vigala Alt-Fickel
The von Uexkülls ruled Vigala for nearly seven centuries. The first walls collapsed on the soft ground, but by 1775 an early classicist mansion stood complete, with ancient reliefs from Pompeii in its entrance hall. The house and its library burned in 1905, but it was rebuilt almost exactly as before.

Good to know Two antique bas-reliefs from Pompeii in the entrance hall are the oldest artworks in Estonia, though not of local origin. Building began in the 1760s, but the first walls collapsed because the ground kept shifting. The 1905 fire destroyed the manor’s large library.
