Vääna Faehna
Owned by Padise Abbey in the Middle Ages, Vääna passed in 1774 to Otto Magnus von Stackelberg, whose family kept it until 1919. In 1797 a long house on a high plinth was finished to an Italian architect’s design, with domed round towers at either end. A straight avenue nearly a mile long led up to it, and the ruins of a vassal castle still stand in the park.

Good to know A sandstone balustrade along the roofline was soon removed because it could not stand the climate. One of the domed halls was fitted out as an art gallery. In the 1800s the vassal castle ruins were “improved” in the romantic fashion for ruins.
