Purtse Alt-Isenhof
In the 1530s the von Taubes built a fortified stone house by the Purtse River: storage below, living quarters in the middle and a defensive floor on top. In danger the ladder to the second-floor entrance could be pulled up, and a hypocaust in the cellar heated the hall. It later served as a barn, a granary and even a jail, until the ruin was restored with its defensive story and tower.

Good to know After 1731 Purtse was an outpost of the Püssi estate. The living floor had one large beamed hall and two smaller vaulted rooms. The defensive floor and tower added in the restoration are educated guesses.
