Järlepa was split off from Seli manor in 1688. Its stately Early Classicist house was finished in 1805 under the playwright August von Kotzebue, whose father-in-law, Otto Wilhelm von Krusenstern, owned the estate, and the manor became a well-known cultural center. Burned in 1905, the house was rebuilt in altered form, with a tall four-columned portico before the main entrance.
Before World War II the Hendrik Anton tobacco company worked at the manor.
In 1945–1946 the Red Army’s Estonian Corps used the house.
From 1957 it housed a pedigree poultry state farm.
