The lands of Suure-Lähtru were granted as a fief to Egert von Alen in 1560. In 1590 Menschik Baranoff became lord of the manor, and the Baranoffs held it until 1836. The two-story Early Classical house was built in 1775–1778 by Karl Gustav von Baranoff as a wedding gift for his eldest son, Christoph Heinrich. It was designed by the architect C. J. Jänichen, and its stucco ceilings were designed by Johann Caspar Mohr. In 1836 the estate was sold to Heinrich von Stryk and in 1856 to Thomas von Ramm; the last owner before the 1919 land reform was Theodor Boustedt.

Today After the 1919 land reform the house held a local school until a collective farm took it over. Today the manor is privately owned and restored; according to the Estonian manors portal it hosts receptions, seminars and other events. A few outbuildings also survive.
