Räpina Rappin
In 1734 the von Löwenwoldes founded a paper mill on the Võhandu River that grew into Estonia’s oldest working paper factory. In the 1850s the von Richters built Sillapää Castle on the millpond, with a four-column portico facing the water. Gardeners later trained here, and a Classical pavilion called the Kissing Temple still crowns a hill in the park.

Good to know The Räpina paper mill printed Russian rubles and, in the 1930s, Estonian kroons. After the Great Northern War, Old Believers tried to found a monastery here but were driven out in 1719. One connecting wing held a winter garden.
