Mäksa Mäxhof

Mäksa dates from the Middle Ages and was first recorded in 1555; it took its name from the Meck family who owned it then. After the Great Northern War it belonged to the Schübters, the Loewensterns and the Essens. The manor stands on the scenic right bank of the Emajõgi River. The older, two-story part of the house was built in the Early Classical style around 1800. In the later 1800s a one-story Historicist wing with arched windows and shallow pediments was added at the right end, with the entrance set between the old and new parts.
