Kavastu appears in 1544 in the hands of Jakob Krabbe, and its owners later ran from the Oxenstiernas to the Wulfs. In the 1890s a Neo-Baroque house rose on the bank of the Emajõgi, with a tall mansard roof and a three-story tower, hailed as the finest building in the district. In the fall of 1944 it was destroyed in the fighting along the river.
The park, a few outbuildings and a lime avenue survive, and Estonia’s only river ferry runs nearby.

Good to know
Estonia’s only working river ferry runs near the manor.
The ferry still uses a hand-cranked winch from 1899.
In 1924 the house became an old people’s home.
