Illuste manor is first recorded in 1646, and from 1871 it belonged to the Maydells. The two-story Heimatstil house with Art Nouveau touches was designed by the architect Otto Wildau and completed in 1912. Illuste had no outbuildings to speak of, because the neighboring Paatsalu manor, rich in farm buildings and also owned by the Maydells, served as its working estate. Officially, Illuste was then a secondary manor of Paatsalu.
The manor belongs to the Tallinn Sports School and hosts summer camps. The Maydell family cemetery in the seaward part of the park was vandalized decades ago.
