Rägavere eraldati 1540. aastal Mõdriku mõisast ning 1764–1860 kuulus see Kaulbarsidele, kes lasid Tallinna ehitada ka Kaulbarsi palee. Varaklassitsistlik peahoone kerkis 18. sajandi lõpuveerandil, kuid peatrepp ja uksed on veel barokised; 1899. aasta tulekahju järel pikendati maja. 1970. aastatel oli Rägavere üks esimesi restaureeritud mõisaid Eestis.

Täna Eraomanik restaureeris mõisa täielikult; arhitekt Toomas Rank sai töö eest Kultuurkapitali aastapreemia.

Rägavere was split off from Mõdriku manor in 1540, and from 1764 to 1860 it belonged to the Kaulbars family, who also built the Kaulbars Palace in Tallinn. The Early Classicist house rose in the late 1700s, though its main staircase and doors are still Baroque; after a fire in 1899 it was lengthened. In the 1970s Rägavere was one of the first restored manors in Estonia.

Today A private owner fully restored the manor, and the architect Toomas Rank won the Cultural Endowment’s annual award for the work.
